Benefits of the Iron Tetsutama

Using an iron tetsutama allows naturally absorbable iron to be released into water and food. This can help support daily iron intake, especially for those who may be prone to iron deficiency. In addition, iron improves the taste of water, making tea and food milder and more rounded. The tetsutama is a traditional, reusable, and chemical-free way to supplement iron in everyday life.

How to Use the Iron Tetsutama

Place the iron tetsutama in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then remove it before use.
The water can be used for tea, coffee, soup, rice, or cooking.
After use, rinse well, dry thoroughly, and store in a dry place to prevent rust.
Can be used with IH-compatible cookware.

Nambu Ironware is a traditional Japanese cast iron craft from Morioka, Japan, with a history of over 400 years.

It is best known for its heavy, durable cast iron kettles and teapots, often decorated with the arare (hailstone) pattern—small raised dots that help distribute heat evenly and add texture.

Nambu ironware is designed for everyday use. Cast iron kettles are valued not only for their long life, but also because water boiled in them naturally contains iron that the body can easily absorb.

Today, Nambu ironware combines old craftsmanship with modern convenience, including IH-compatible designs, and is widely appreciated in the U.S. and around the world as both a functional kitchen tool and a piece of Japanese heritage.
