Kitamura Tokusai – Silk Textiles from Kyoto
The ninth-generation Kitamura Tokusai continues a long lineage of Kyoto artisans specializing in textiles for the Japanese tea ceremony. Officially licensed by the Urasenke Grand Master, the workshop is highly regarded in the world of chadō.
Each piece is crafted from pure silk using traditional techniques such as Nishijin-ori brocade and Kyō-Yūzen dyeing, including the celebrated “meibutsugire” (noted textiles) cherished by tea masters for centuries.
Originally created for tea utensils like kobukusa (silk cloth) or shifuku (pouch coverings), these textiles can also be enjoyed as refined interior accents or works of art.
Blending deep tradition with timeless elegance, the Kitamura Tokusai collection brings Kyoto’s textile heritage into modern life.
