Tokoname Ceramic Tea Roaster (Hojicha Roasting Pot)

Regular price $68.00

This Tokoname ceramic tea roaster is a traditional Japanese tool used to make hojicha, a roasted green tea known for its warm, toasty aroma and smooth flavor.

Made in Tokoname, a pottery town with over 1,000 years of history, this roaster comes from one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions. Tokoname ware is especially known for its iron-rich clay, which has long been used for teapots and tea tools.

The roaster is placed directly over a flame to gently roast tea leaves.
Once roasted, the leaves are poured straight into a teapot through the spout near the handle—simple and practical, even for beginners.

Tokoname clay naturally contains iron, which helps soften and round out flavors.
Combined with the gentle heat of ceramic, it allows tea leaves to roast evenly without burning, creating hojicha that tastes smooth, mellow, and balanced.

This roaster isn’t just for tea. It can also be used to roast beans, sesame seeds, salt, or ginkgo nuts, making it a versatile kitchen tool.

You can refresh leftover or older green tea by roasting it to your preferred level at home.
As the tea roasts, a comforting, nutty aroma fills the room. Tea leaves also have natural deodorizing properties—after brewing, the used leaves can be dried and placed in an entryway or shoe closet as a natural deodorizer.
