Kacho-monkin Futsugire | 花鳥文金風通裂

One of the renowned “meibutsugire” fabrics, this charming textile features a deep navy background with a stylized geometric pattern and circular floral medallions containing motifs of flowers and birds. The bird depicted is a phoenix.

This fabric is woven using the “Futsu” technique—a double-weave method that uses two different colored threads to create distinct patterns and backgrounds on the front and back. The name "Futsu" comes from the way air can easily pass through the areas where the colors change, evoking a sense of wind passing through.
