Standing Crane Tea Bowl by Hiroshi Fukumori — Pre-owned
With inscription by Kōrin Ōhashi, Former Abbot of Daitoku-ji
Title: “Kotobuki” (“Longevity / Celebration”)
This tea bowl was crafted by Hiroshi Fukumori, a skilled ceramic artist known for his expressive and refined forms. The piece reflects careful attention to texture, shape, and glaze, creating a bowl with both aesthetic beauty and practical use in tea gatherings.
The bowl comes with an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Kōrin Ōhashi, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most revered Zen temples. This inscription links the piece to the spiritual and cultural lineage of chanoyu.
The chawan bears the title “Kotobuki” (“Longevity / Celebration”). The crane, depicted in the design, is a traditional symbol of longevity and good fortune, and the name Kotobuki conveys wishes for long life, joy, and prosperity.
This piece is offered in very good pre-owned condition, suitable for use in tea practice as well as for collectors who appreciate Zen-inscribed tea ware that embodies traditional Japanese symbolism and elegance.
