This handcrafted Takayama Chasen is made from Japanese black bamboo by 25th-generation chasen master Ryosai Kubo, a Traditional Craftsman certified by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Ryosai Kubo is one of only 16 Takayama chasen makers carrying on this traditional craft today. Each chasen is individually handcrafted in Takayama, Ikoma, Nara, a region renowned for its centuries-old tradition of chasen making.

From the selection of the raw bamboo to the finished chasen, all materials are sourced in Japan. The bamboo is traditionally prepared using natural methods, including aburanuki (oil removal) and sun-drying, before being carefully shaped and finished by hand.

This Shin Kazuho (真数穂) is crafted from black bamboo and is recommended for practitioners of the Omotesenke school of Chanoyu. With its traditional form and understated appearance, it is well suited for both regular tea practice and tea gatherings.
