Kutani Ware Yunomi – Shoryu (昇龍 / Rising Dragon)

An exceptional Kutani ware yunomi featuring a dynamic Shoryu (Rising Dragon) motif, hand-painted by Yoshinori Fukuda, a certified Traditional Craftsman of Kutani Ware recognized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The ceramic body is individually handcrafted at Kutani Wagama, after which Fukuda-san personally applies the overglaze decoration by hand. The accompanying inscription on the paulownia wood box (kiribako) is also handwritten by the artist, making each piece a special example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

The rising dragon is a powerful and auspicious motif in Japanese art, making this yunomi a meaningful piece for a collection or a special gift.

Kutani ware has a history spanning more than 360 years and became internationally celebrated after being exhibited at the Paris Exposition, where its richly colored overglaze decoration became known worldwide as “Japan Kutani.”

The yunomi comes presented in a signed paulownia wood box, which can also be used for display or storage.
