Rikyu Hyakushu Sensu – White Bamboo Tea Ceremony Fan, 5 Sun | Made in Japan

Regular price $25.00

Color: Yellow

A traditional Japanese sensu (folding fan) made with white bamboo and featuring the Rikyu Hyakushu (利休百首), the “One Hundred Poems of Rikyu.”

The Rikyu Hyakushu is a collection of one hundred verses that convey teachings and principles associated with Sen no Rikyu and the Way of Tea. The verses offer guidance on the spirit, etiquette, preparation, and practice of Chanoyu and have long been studied by tea practitioners.

This compact 5-sun fan is designed for use in the Japanese tea ceremony. In Chanoyu, a sensu is an important part of a practitioner’s personal set of tea utensils. Rather than being used primarily for cooling, it has a ceremonial role and may be placed in front of the practitioner when exchanging greetings as a symbolic boundary of respect.

The natural white bamboo gives the fan a clean, understated appearance that complements the traditional calligraphy of the Rikyu Hyakushu.
