Pair of Bamboo RO/FURO Futaoki by Nonomura Tankan With Zen Calligraphy by Hasergawa Kanshu, Former Abbot of Daitoku-ji

Regular price $145.00

This elegant pair of bamboo Ro/Furo futaoki was crafted by Nonomura Tankan and is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Kanshū Hasegawa, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most important Zen temples.

Futaoki are essential utensils in the Japanese tea ceremony, used to rest the kettle lid or bamboo ladle during temae (tea preparation). A matching pair (issō) is especially appreciated for its sense of balance and harmony, reflecting the quiet order central to chanoyu.

The natural bamboo displays refined simplicity and warmth, allowing the material’s character to speak for itself. The addition of Zen calligraphy lends spiritual depth and cultural significance, elevating these futaoki beyond their functional role.

This set is offered in very good pre-owned condition, having been carefully preserved. It is well suited both for use in tea gatherings and for collectors who value Zen-inscribed tea utensils with traditional craftsmanship and provenance.

A dignified pair of futaoki that embodies the harmony of bamboo craftsmanship, Zen spirit, and the refined aesthetics of the Japanese tea ceremony.
