Kyo-yaki Matcha Bowl – Parent & Child Rabbits under the Full Moon

A charming Kyo-yaki (Kyoto ware) matcha bowl depicting a parent and child rabbit beneath a full moon, creating a peaceful and heartwarming autumn scene.

In Japanese culture, rabbits have a special connection with the moon. According to traditional folklore, a rabbit is believed to live on the moon, where it can be seen making mochi. For this reason, rabbits frequently appear together with the moon in Japanese seasonal art and are especially associated with Tsukimi (月見), the traditional custom of moon viewing.

The pairing of a parent and child adds a particularly gentle character to the design, evoking affection, family bonds, and the quiet beauty of sharing a moment together.

The full moon makes this chawan especially appropriate for late summer through early fall, particularly around the season of the harvest moon. It is a delightful choice for a Tsukimi chakai, an autumn tea gathering, or simply for enjoying matcha during a quiet evening at home.

Handcrafted in the tradition of Kyo-yaki, the bowl combines the refined character of Kyoto ceramics with a playful and distinctly Japanese seasonal motif.
