This elegant Katatsuki Chaire (shouldered tea caddy) is handcrafted by ceramic artist Ryuji Nakagawa and finished with a traditional Takatori glaze. Takatori glaze is known for its subtle, earthy tones and beautiful natural variations. The surface has a smooth, glossy finish that enhances the depth and richness of the glaze. 

The Katatsuki is one of the classic shapes of tea caddies used in the Japanese tea ceremony. As its name suggests, it features well-defined "shoulders," a gently rounded body, and softly tapered top and base, creating a harmonious and well-balanced silhouette that has been admired by tea practitioners for centuries.

The tea caddy comes with a beautifully crafted Shifuku (protective silk pouch) made from 100% pure silk, and is presented in a traditional wooden storage box.

Shifuku Textile Designs： Uraku Donsu

Uraku Donsu is one of the prestigious Meibutsu-gire (famous traditional Japanese textiles) and is traditionally associated with Oda Urakusai (Oda Nagamasu), the younger brother of Oda Nobunaga and a renowned tea master. It features a cloud-and-crane motif (Unkaku-mon), with cloud-shaped medallions scattered across a net-patterned ground, each enclosing an elegant crane design. Woven with yellowish-brown weft threads against a deep navy background, this refined textile is admired for its classical beauty and auspicious symbolism, as cranes represent longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture.
