Black Lacquered Tray with Blue Shell (Hakkebon)

Black Lacquer Tray with Blue Shell (Hakkebon) is a circular black-lacquered tray inlaid with blue shell in the design of the Eight Trigrams (Hakke), crafted using the traditional raden (shell inlay) technique. Made of wood with a lacquer finish, it is traditionally used in the Urasenke Gyounogyo Daisu tea ceremony. The combination of the Eight Trigrams design and black lacquer creates a strikingly elegant piece, reproduced in the style preferred by Gengensai.

Even for those who do not practice tea ceremony, this tray can be used to serve tea or meals, or as a display for sweets and seasonal items. It is a refined and beautiful piece that brings a touch of traditional Japanese aesthetics into everyday life.

What is the Hakke?
The Hakke, or Eight Trigrams, are eight symbols used in traditional Chinese divination. They represent the principles of nature and the universe and have been used since ancient times. These symbols are based on the I Ching, the classic text of Chinese divination.
