Kochakin Case – Chōjū Giga (Scroll of Frolicking Animals)

Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga (Chōjū Giga) is a set of ink-painted picture scrolls preserved at Kōzan-ji Temple in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan. It is commonly referred to as “Chōjū Giga” and consists of four scrolls: Ko (A), Otsu (B), Hei (C), and Tei (D).

The scrolls are humorous and satirical depictions of animals and human-like figures, reflecting the customs and society of the time. Among them, the Ko scroll is especially famous for its anthropomorphized rabbits, frogs, and monkeys. Some of its expressive techniques resemble those used in modern manga, which is why it is often called “the oldest manga in Japan.”

This product is a small chakin case featuring a Chōjū Giga design.
