Raku | Kuro Raku, Black Raku

Kuro raku is a type of Raku ware tea bowl used in the Japanese tea ceremony. It was first created by Chōjirō under the guidance of Sen no Rikyū. Made by hand without a potter’s wheel, it has a thick, black-glazed finish that absorbs heat well, enhancing the flavor of matcha. Highly valued for embodying wabi-sabi, it is often used in koicha (thick tea) gatherings.
