Silk Cloth l Kobukusa Dashibukusa by Kitamura Tokusai
About Tokusai Kitamura’s Kobukusa and Dashibukusa
These kobukusa (small decorative cloths) and dashibukusa (presentation silk cloths) are handcrafted by Tokusai Kitamura, the 9th-generation master artisan of the Kitamura family in Kyoto, who has been officially licensed by the Urasenke Grand Tea Master.
Each piece is woven in Nishijin-ori, Kyoto’s renowned traditional textile technique known for its rich colors, intricate patterns, and refined texture.
Made from the finest silk, these fabrics embody the elegance and precision of Kyoto craftsmanship.
In the Japanese tea ceremony (chadō), kobukusa and dashibukusa are essential items — used to handle tea utensils with respect, to present utensils, or to express seasonal themes and aesthetic harmony.
Through Kitamura’s work, this centuries-old textile art continues to bring beauty, grace, and mindfulness to each tea gathering.
