光楽造 黒楽 茶碗
前大徳寺 宮西玄性 書付
銘:瑞雲

This black Raku tea bowl was crafted at the Kōraku Kiln, known for its adherence to the traditional Raku aesthetic—an approach deeply connected to the spirit of Japanese tea practice. Raku ware is hand-formed rather than wheel-thrown, resulting in a soft, organic presence that fits naturally in the hands and invites quiet contemplation.

The accompanying wooden box bears an inscription by Miyanishi Genshō, a former priest of Daitoku-ji Temple, one of the most important Zen temples associated with the tea tradition. His calligraphy bestows both cultural and spiritual significance upon the piece, situating it within the lineage of chanoyu.

The bowl is given the poetic name 瑞雲 Zuiun (“Auspicious Cloud”), a term often associated with good fortune and the gentle appearance of clouds that herald positive beginnings. The deep black glaze, with its subtle variations and soft luster, enhances the quiet dignity of the form and reflects the wabi aesthetic—beauty found in simplicity, imperfection, and depth.

This piece is offered in very good pre-owned condition and has been carefully preserved. It is suitable for use in tea gatherings and for collectors who appreciate tea ware that embodies both artistic craftsmanship and the spiritual heritage of the Japanese tea tradition.
