Before First Use: Don’t Worry About the Paper or Glue
Your Takayama chasen is carefully packaged in a paper box for protection during shipping from Japan.
To prevent damage during transit, the whisk is lightly secured with glue. Because of this, you may notice small pieces of paper sticking to the chasen when you first open the box.
Simply soak it in warm water for about 1 minute.
The paper and glue will naturally loosen and can be gently removed.
Before Use: A Quick Rinse Is Enough
Before using your chasen, simply rinse it gently with lukewarm or cold water.
Our Takayama chasen is made from bamboo that has been naturally treated and air-dried for about 5 years. No chemicals are used, so a light rinse is all you need.
Please avoid soaking in hot water for long periods (such as 10 minutes or more), as this may damage the bamboo over time.
Natural Hand-Finished Details (Not a Defect)
Each chasen is hand-carved by skilled artisans using a knife to carefully shape every tine.
Because of this traditional process, you may notice small bamboo shavings or natural rough edges. This is completely normal and not a defect.
If needed, simply rinse before use and gently remove any loose fibers with your fingers. These details are part of the natural, handcrafted character of each chasen.
After Use: Simple Cleaning + Proper Drying
After use, rinse your chasen gently with water to remove any matcha residue.
Then place it on a whisk stand (chasen holder) and let it air dry naturally. This helps maintain its shape and keeps the tines in good condition.
