A beautifully crafted Japanese Furosaki Byobu (Tea Ceremony Folding Screen) made from natural Japanese cedar wood (sugi) by traditional Kyoto lacquerware artisan Hyōkan Kawase (川瀬表完).
This elegant wooden folding screen features an intricate Ashisukashi (Reed Cutout) design and follows the preferred style of Tantansai, the 14th Grand Master of the Urasenke School of Japanese Tea Ceremony.
The delicate reed-shaped openwork captures the natural beauty of reeds growing along the water's edge, creating a light and graceful appearance. The warm tones and natural wood grain of Japanese cedar enhance its understated elegance, reflecting the Japanese aesthetic of simplicity and harmony with nature.
Traditionally placed beside the furo (portable brazier), a Furosaki Byobu helps define the tea preparation area and creates a refined setting within the tea room.
The natural cedar construction and openwork reed design make this screen particularly suitable for summer tea gatherings, while its timeless appearance allows it to complement a variety of seasonal tea room arrangements.
