This elegant bowl features "Niji" (Rainbow), one of Yoshida's signature maki-e designs. Using his original Shotai Shikki technique, multiple layers of natural lacquer are carefully applied to the exterior of heat-resistant glass, creating a piece that combines modern functionality with centuries-old Japanese craftsmanship.

Unlike ordinary glass bowls, the exterior is coated with five layers of lacquer, making the bowl comfortable to hold even when filled with hot matcha. The result is a lightweight yet practical tea bowl that beautifully reflects light while showcasing the timeless elegance of traditional maki-e.

About the Artist – Kasho Yoshida (Toshiaki Yoshida)

Born in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, in 1940, Kasho Yoshida is one of Japan's distinguished Kaga Maki-e lacquer artists.

After studying under master lacquer artist Teruo Nakauchi (Kōhō Nakauchi), he dedicated his career to preserving and advancing the traditional art of Kaga lacquerware. In 1998, he was officially recognized by Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry as a Certified Traditional Craftsman (Dentō Kōgeishi).

Today, his work is admired for combining classical Japanese lacquer techniques with innovative materials, creating tea utensils that are both beautiful and practical.
