Pair of Ro/FURO Futaoki With Zen Calligraphy by Takeda Ekishū of Kennin-ji

定価 $158.00

This refined pair of futaoki (lid rests) is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Takeda Ekishū of Kennin-ji, the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto.

The piece bears the name “Kōjitsu 好日” (A Good Day), a Zen phrase expressing the idea that each day, when lived with awareness and gratitude, is inherently complete and meaningful. This concept resonates deeply with the spirit of the Japanese tea ceremony, where an ordinary moment is transformed into something quietly profound.

In chanoyu, futaoki are used to rest the kettle lid or bamboo ladle during temae (tea preparation). A matching pair (issō) is especially valued for its sense of harmony and balance, contributing to the calm rhythm of the tea gathering.

This set is offered in very good pre-owned condition, having been carefully preserved. Suitable both for use in tea gatherings and for collectors, it represents a thoughtful union of Zen philosophy and traditional tea practice.

A serene and meaningful pair of futaoki that reflects the gentle mindfulness at the heart of Japanese tea culture.
