Katatsuki Chaire – Takatori Glaze with Hosomaru Ryu Tori Dasuki Shifuku

定価 $210.00

This elegant Katatsuki Chaire (shouldered tea caddy) is handcrafted by ceramic artist Ryuji Nakagawa and finished with a traditional Takatori glaze. Takatori glaze is known for its subtle, earthy tones and beautiful natural variations. The surface has a smooth, glossy finish that enhances the depth and richness of the glaze.

The Katatsuki is one of the classic shapes of tea caddies used in the Japanese tea ceremony. As its name suggests, it features well-defined "shoulders," a gently rounded body, and softly tapered top and base, creating a harmonious and well-balanced silhouette that has been admired by tea practitioners for centuries.

The tea caddy comes with a beautifully crafted Shifuku (protective silk pouch) made from 100% pure silk, and is presented in a traditional wooden storage box.

Shifuku Textile Designs: Hosomaru Ryu Tori Dasuki

Hosomaru Ryū Tori-dasuki is one of the traditional Meibutsu-gire (famous historic textiles), featuring an elegant classical design of long-tailed birds arranged in a diagonal tasuki (sash-like) pattern, accented with finely woven circular dragon motifs. In Japanese tradition, dragons symbolize authority, prosperity, and vitality, while birds represent happiness and longevity. Together, these auspicious motifs create a refined design that harmoniously balances strength and elegance.

  • Because each tea caddy is handmade, the glaze, color, and surface pattern (known as the keshiki, or "landscape") will vary slightly, making every piece unique.
  • Colors may appear slightly different depending on your monitor or device settings.
