Katatsuki Chaire – Seto Glaze with Ishidatami Takara Zukushi Shifuku

定価 $210.00

This elegant Katatsuki Chaire (shouldered tea caddy) is handcrafted by ceramic artist Ryuji Nakagawa and finished with a traditional Seto glaze, a style of glazing that originated in the renowned pottery region of Seto, Japan. Seto ware is celebrated for its refined craftsmanship, warm character, and beautiful glazes, making it one of Japan's most respected ceramic traditions.

The Katatsuki is one of the classic shapes of tea caddies used in the Japanese tea ceremony. As its name suggests, it features well-defined "shoulders," a gently rounded body, and softly tapered top and base, creating a harmonious and well-balanced silhouette that has been admired by tea practitioners for centuries.

The tea caddy comes with a beautifully crafted Shifuku (protective silk pouch) made from 100% pure silk, and is presented in a traditional wooden storage box.

Shifuku Textile Designs: Ishidatami Takara Zukushi Shifuku

Ishidatami Takara-zukushi is a traditional Japanese auspicious pattern. It combines the stone pavement (Ishidatami) design, arranged in a checkered composition, with Takara-zukushi, a collection of symbolic treasures representing good fortune. The design features various treasured motifs such as sacred jewels, lucky mallets, scrolls, and the Kakuremino (invisible raincoat), each symbolizing happiness, prosperity, and the fulfillment of wishes. The harmonious combination of geometric patterns and auspicious motifs creates an elegant and timeless design cherished in Japanese textiles.

Please Note

  • Because each tea caddy is handmade, the glaze, color, and surface pattern (known as the keshiki, or "landscape") will vary slightly, making every piece unique.
  • Colors may appear slightly different depending on your monitor or device settings.
