Kissho Fukuju mon | 紹巴吉祥福寿文
This is an original Tokusai textile, featuring the traditional characters “福” (happiness) and “寿” (longevity) among other auspicious motifs. The characters are arranged in a regular pattern with careful consideration of the balance between the base color and the thread colors. Each character is expressed with subtle color variations, a distinctive feature of this piece. The practice of stylizing auspicious characters in designs has a long history in China as well.
