This handcrafted Aka Raku (Red Raku) matcha bowl by Yoshimura Rakunyu features an elegant crane motif, a traditional Japanese symbol of longevity, good fortune, and celebration.

The warm, earthy tones of Aka Raku provide a beautiful setting for the graceful crane design. When filled with freshly whisked matcha, the vivid green of the tea creates a striking yet harmonious contrast with the soft red tones of the bowl.

In Japanese culture, the crane (tsuru) has long been regarded as an auspicious motif and is closely associated with longevity and happiness. For this reason, crane designs are especially appropriate for celebratory occasions, including New Year and Hatsugama, as well as other special tea gatherings throughout the year.

Handcrafted in Kyoto, this chawan reflects the warmth and expressive character of Raku ware. Its hand-shaped form and subtle variations in the glaze give each piece an individual presence that can only be found in artisan-made ceramics.
