Tantansai-Style Furosaki Byobu – Seigaiha & Hagoromo Gauze Folding Screen | Kyo-ma

Prix habituel $480.00

Condition

A traditional Japanese Furosaki Byobu (Tea Ceremony Folding Screen) featuring Seigaiha (Ocean Waves) and Hagoromo (Celestial Robe) motifs on delicate gauze fabric, beautifully framed in black lacquer.

This elegant screen follows the preferred style of Tantansai, the 14th Grand Master of the Urasenke School of Japanese Tea Ceremony.

The Seigaiha (青海波) pattern, depicting overlapping ocean waves, symbolizes peace, happiness, and good fortune that continues endlessly. The Hagoromo (羽衣) motif, inspired by the celestial feather robe of Japanese legend, represents heavenly beauty, grace, and elegance.

The delicate gauze (sha) fabric creates a light, refined appearance, while the black lacquered frame provides a beautiful contrast.

Traditionally placed beside the furo (portable brazier), a Furosaki Byobu helps define the tea preparation area and enhances the atmosphere of the tea room.

Crafted in the Kyo-ma (Kyoto-style) size, this screen is particularly suitable for traditional Japanese tea rooms using Kyoto-style tatami dimensions.
