Shoraku Kuro Raku Chawan “Hachibiraki” – Chōjirō Style

This Kuro Raku (Black Raku) matcha chawan was crafted by Sasaki Shoraku (佐々木松楽) in Kyoto, inspired by the work of Chōjirō (長次郎), the first-generation Raku potter whose tea bowls are closely associated with Sen no Rikyū and the development of wabi-cha.

The chawan bears the name “Hachibiraki” (鉢開).

Made in the spirit of traditional Chōjirō-style Raku ware, the bowl has a quiet, understated presence. The deep black glaze and hand-formed character allow the color of freshly whisked matcha to stand out beautifully.

Its restrained form makes it suitable for a wide range of Chanoyu settings, from daily practice to formal tea gatherings.
