This bamboo chashaku (tea scoop) was crafted by Sōgen and is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Kanshū Hasegawa, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most important Zen temples.

The chashaku is poetically named “Hagi no Tsuyu - 萩の露 .
In Japanese aesthetics, bush clover (hagi) is an autumn flower associated with quiet elegance and gentle transience. Dew resting on its leaves evokes impermanence and subtle beauty—an image deeply resonant with Zen philosophy and the spirit of the tea ceremony.
