By Asukakō Kiln
Title: “Kōjitsu” (“Every Day is a Good Day”)
With inscription by Hashimoto Jōshō, Former Abbot of Daitoku-ji

This tea bowl was crafted by the Asukakō Kiln in the Kyoto-style Spotted Karatsu tradition. Karatsu ware is celebrated for its earthy tones, subtle textures, and the natural variations created during firing, giving each piece a distinctive character appreciated in the Japanese tea ceremony.

The bowl is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Hashimoto Jōshō, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most revered Zen temples. This inscription connects the piece to the spiritual and cultural lineage of chanoyu.

The chawan bears the title “Kōjitsu” (“Every Day is a Good Day”), expressing a positive, mindful approach to life and encouraging appreciation for each ordinary yet precious moment.

Spotted Karatsu tea bowls are admired for their warm, natural surfaces, gentle irregular forms, and the quiet depth they bring to tea gatherings.

This piece is offered in very good pre-owned condition and is suitable both for use in tea practice and for collectors who value Zen-inscribed tea ware rooted in Japanese tradition.
