This matcha bowl features Mount Fuji and chrysanthemums, symbols of Japan’s beauty. Artist: Ryōji Nakamura, a Kyoto-born ceramic artist, studied under Shunhō Inoue, Sui-ran Nakamura, and Shūhō Nakamura. He is known for his work that preserves the traditional techniques of Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-yaki pottery while incorporating a modern sensibility. He creates handcrafted tea ceremony utensils, including matcha bowls, incense containers, and water jars, often featuring natural and seasonal motifs with ash glazes and colored enamels. Each piece is unique, celebrated for its artistry and individuality, making it ideal for both collectors and everyday tea practice.

About Kyo (Kiyomizu) Ware
Kyo-yaki, also known as Kiyomizu-yaki, is a traditional style of pottery that originated in Kyoto over 400 years ago, during the late 16th to early 17th century. Its defining characteristic is the freedom from fixed styles, embracing a wide range of decorative techniques and expressions. From delicate and ornate designs to simple and refined forms, Kyo-yaki offers great variety and is cherished both as tea utensils and as tableware for everyday use.
