With formal permission to use the design of the fukusa patterns by his brother Tokusai Kitamura, the piece has been hand-painted as a work by Makiko Doi.
The “Musubi Wakakusa” (Young Grass Knot) motif expresses young grasses intertwining and growing vigorously, symbolizing vitality, growth, prosperity, and the hope for enduring good relationships and flourishing descendants—a traditional auspicious pattern.
The motifs traditionally used in fukusa are incorporated into the design of the vessel, creating a soft and elegant expression.
Furthermore, the box also features designs drawn from those used on fukusa, resulting in a special presentation in which the aesthetic sensibilities and worldview of the Kitamura family are harmoniously unified throughout the work.
