Raku Matcha by Eikō Meidō, Mandokoro Kiln — Pre‑owned
With Zen Calligraphy by Bokuou Seki, Tenryu-ji Temple
With Zen Calligraphy by Takeda Ekijū, Kennin-ji Temple

This matcha bowl was crafted by Eikō Meidō of the Mandokoro Kiln, a temple-based kiln established at Kōdai-ji Temple and Entoku-in. The kiln produces garden-style ware and works to preserve temple cultural assets while supporting child welfare initiatives. The first generation was Meidō Gotō, and the second generation, Eikō Jōdō, became head of the kiln in 1994.

The bowl is accompanied by two inscriptions: one by Bokuou Seki of Tenryu-ji Temple and another by Takeda Ekijū of Kennin-ji Temple. These inscriptions firmly situate the piece within the spiritual and cultural lineage of Japanese tea practice.

Matcha bowls from the Mandokoro Kiln are admired for their refined craftsmanship, elegant forms, and subtle textures that enhance the contemplative experience of tea. The softly irregular shape reflects the wabi aesthetic, where beauty is found in natural variation, simplicity, and quiet depth.

This piece is pre-owned but in very good condition and has been carefully preserved. It is suitable for use in tea gatherings and for collectors who value temple-associated tea ware that unites artistry, heritage, and the spirit of chanoyu.
