Hagi Ware Tawara-shaped Tea Bowl by Zuihō Ōno — Pre-owned
With inscription by Kōrin Ōhashi, Former Abbot of Daitoku-ji

This Hagi ware tawara-shaped tea bowl was crafted by Zuihō Ōno, a ceramic artist working within the long-cherished tradition of Hagi ceramics. Hagi ware has been highly valued in the Japanese tea ceremony for centuries, admired for its natural glaze effects, soft textures, and the quiet dialogue it creates between clay, fire, and the spirit of the maker.

The bowl is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Kōrin Ōhashi, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most respected Zen temples. Such an inscription firmly situates the peace within the spiritual and cultural lineage of chanoyu.

Hagi ware tea bowls are admired for their warm, earthy tones and soft, tactile surface that gradually develops a unique character through use. The gently irregular form reflects the wabi aesthetic, where beauty is found in natural variation, simplicity, and quiet depth.

This piece is offered in very good pre-owned condition and has been carefully preserved. It is suitable for use in tea gatherings as well as for collectors who appreciate traditional Hagi ware connected to the spirit of chanoyu.
