Bamboo Whisk l Takayama Chasen – Traditional Japanese Matcha Whisks
Takayama Chasen are handcrafted bamboo tea whisks made in Takayama, Nara, the birthplace of Japanese tea whisk making for over 530 years.
Today, only 16 officially recognized Takayama Chasen masters remain in Japan, making these whisks a rare and important part of Japanese tea culture.
Nara Tea is proud to offer chasen made by two of these 16 masters:
-
Tango Tanimura – 20th-generation master craftsman whose chasen are supplied to the Urasenke Grand Tea Master (Iemoto).
-
Ryosai Kubo – Respected Takayama Chasen master dedicated to preserving this traditional craft.
Each whisk is carefully handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo using techniques passed down through generations.
Whether you are new to matcha or a tea ceremony practitioner, a Takayama Chasen offers an authentic connection to Japan’s tea tradition.
