This bamboo chashaku (tea scoop) was crafted by Sōsai and is accompanied by an original hakogaki (box inscription) written by Fukumoto Sekio, former abbot of Daitoku-ji, one of Kyoto’s most significant Zen temples.
The chashaku bears the poetic name “Omokage おもかげ” (Remembrance), a word that evokes lingering impressions, memories, and the quiet presence of what once was. In the context of chanoyu, it suggests a gentle reflection on the past and an appreciation of subtle, enduring beauty.
